I strongly recommend reading Breaking the Ties that Bind, which is the only book I know of that talks about adult children of parental alienation syndrome. It completely changed my mind on throwing in the towel with my SD-- who was just a kid at the time I read it, but I thought for sure we'd never hear from her again once she turned 18.

This is true for plenty of biological families too. My sister doesn't get along with my dad; my mom & I butt heads constantly. We all just grit our teeth to get through holidays and family dinners. But do you think my dad would ever say "I'm thinking of divorcing your mother, because your sister doesn't like me"? Or that my mom would take herself out of the equation because she makes me nuts? Of course not! Because family is family, blended or blood.

I agree with your husband. Screw his daughters. They're grown women, not little kids. They can choose to get over whatever their problem is and actually listen to their brothers and dad who love you, or they can continue crippling themselves. This is your husband's choice, not yours-- and he's made it. Leaving now would only hurt the other four kids and both you and your husband.

Meanwhile, enjoy the family you have-- the ones you love and who love you.
