Maybe one of these:

found a smaller one, probably the best fit for the surface pro's dimensions:

this kinda looks interesting, although probably not study enough:

I haven't used any of these stands yet, but have a pro 2 on pre-order and am looking for a low profile, low angle stand to use for drawing. I've tried looking for drawing tablet replacement stands (ie, cintiq) and couldn't really find anything available for purchase. I also took a look at drawing stands/easels and haven't had much luck there, either.

Ideally, I'd love to see a purpose-built low profile artist stand for surface pro/pro 2, something more secure and sturdy than what a laptop stand can deliver. There is probably not a huge market for such an accessory right now, but maybe once the pro 2 is out and the reviews start coming in, well, who knows? Hopefully in a few months there'll be enough of a user base to fund such a project via kickstarter campaign or similar.

That really sucks, sorry about your issues.

As far as the stand goes, there are plenty of good alternatives. I got this one and it works absolutely perfect for the 16", and its extremely easy to carry.

Also to anyone else buying a MSP, maybe Amazon would be a better alternative? Just not having to deal with Wacom seems like a plus, plus they have accident protection plans

I was looking earlier but couldn't find it, now that I'm home I could look it up.

This thing is great for working mobile, as long as you have a keyboard and mouse to use with it. I used it to raise the monitor to the highest point it could be, then used my Bluetooth peripherals. For long hours at client sites it was great. I used it with a MBP (not great) but anything with a wider range hinge worked fine.

Having given up consulting, I don't use it nearly as much, or at all. But it's nice when I do need it.

Got both on amazon:

Laptop stand
The laptop stand is fantastic, very sturdy. Folds up flat and has a neoprene carrying case for travel that doubles as a mouse pad. Have traveled with it a lot and its held up beautifully. A bit pricy but compared to similarly priced hunks of aluminum, it has a lot more functionality

iPad mount
The iPad stand is really sturdy and the price is right. I was initially looking for something to mount the iPad to the side of my monitor, but I think this gives a lot more flexibility.

Recently bought this stand:

It's very thin metal, making portable and includes a slip case, which I guess can be used as a mouse pad too.

I recommend getting some large rubber feet to stick on the top so the back of the MobileStudio Pro doesn't rest on the metal or the raises plastic logo. This means the rubber feet need to be thicker than the logo.

The feet at the bottom that holds laptops in place are metal covers in rubber. Plus they don't get in the way of your hand.

Seems stable enough and even raises the screen up a little. Several angles to choose from.

Only down side, the metal can be noisy setting up and putting away. It also has a disc on the bottom that rotates the stand. You can remove this to make it thinner and the stand still has its own rubber feet.
