I personally use this headset. It's under $20 and will simply do the job.
Funny you should ask. I was looking through my older posts looking for that one post speaking of headsets. A fellow redditor uses this wired headset. I have yet to buy it, but I will most diffidently buy myself one for Borderlands 2

It's very cheap, sound quality isn't bad, and it works great.
It is a USB mic and am kinda noob..well very noob so can ya explain simpler please. :)
