What he states is a very normal reaction. When you lose a child you are never done greiving nor will the pain ever go away. You just simply get better at getting through life with the background of that pain always there. I can't stand the phrase "time heals all" because its so far from the truth.

What was helpful for me was 2 things. My local hospital runs a pregnancy and infant loss support group which brings together real parents in a group run by a facilitator. They don't have to say anything, they can just listen if they want. People share their stories, ask each other questions and the facilitator usually has a backup speech/handout to facilitate discussion.

The other thing that was helpful was this book. It is a compilation of stories from 35 parents who have lost children of all ages, from in-utero to adult.

The way these two help is primarily by showing that he is not alone. Its a terrible club to be in but having other people to help answer his questions and relay their stories will help give him some clarity in a way no one else can. I'd recommend that you research the major hospitals close to him to gather the information about if they have a support group and report that specific information back to him. They will often have this information on their website or you can call the operator and ask. If they don't, look up the nearest maternal-fetal medicine doctor in their area and call their office as they might run a group themselves. You don't have to have lost an infant with their particular hosptial/service to be able to participate in their group.

In addition, /r/babyloss is a fine subreddit for him to peruse. While they aren't crazy active, there's enough people that occasionally visit there that he can get some answers to any questions he has over the period of a week or so.
