They really like fresh water. It's leftover from their wild times, where stagnant water was unsafe to drink from. You can buy fresh running water fountains for cats such as this one. You just have to make sure to change the water. Good luck with that cute little thing!
It costs money but this got rid of the water knocking thing since Lincoln pointed out they want the fresh water.
