The response time of the monitor you listed is slow compared to the one above and the ASUS is only $20 more.

The 1060 6GB was only marginally better than the rx 480 in a lot of dx 11 games(RX 480 was better for dx12). AMD has been faithfully updating drivers and recent benchmarks have actually been showing the RX 480 outperforming the 1060 in a lot of the DX 11 games now too. RX 480s have been going on sale every day for $170 - $200 over at r/buildapcsales which provides a significant price/performance advantage over the 1060. You would end up saving 50-80 bucks.

With the savings you could upgrade your cpu to an i5-6500. The MOBO + CPU combo from microcenter would be about $215 after tax and rebate. This would get you a beastly 1080p machine for around the same price. Here's an example parts list that includes an SSD.

I'm happy with my setup. My main screen has freesync which is the main reason I bought it.

1. Looking into it more, I think you're right with the i5. Is there another motherboard you recommend for compatibility?
   
   
2. I'm still not 100% on the storage yet, as I might put a few favorite games on the SSD, and the overflow (music, movies, other games, whatever else) on the HDD. But, I might switch to the 500GB 850 EVO for everything.
   
   
3. For the sound card, I do enjoy some high quality flac, but I could live without it. I'd use my Audio Techincas anyway.
   
   
4. I could probably use a UTP, but it might be a pain to wire it around my house, unless I start stapling it around doorways.

I'm thinking about getting a monitor to hook up my Dell XPS 13 to. Which one should I get? I was looking for monitors sub $150, and these four are what I've found so far:

Acer R240HY

ASUS VX228H

HP Pavillion 22CWA

ASUS VS228H-P

My thoughts about the monitors: I like the VX228H for dual HDMI (it'd be nice to be able to switch between laptop and switch without unplugging and switching cables from the monitor every time, but not having it isn't a dealbreaker), the Acer and HP both look nice too (I like me some small bezels), and the VS228H-P I'm not too sure about.

I plan on using this monitor for general use, slight gaming, and with the switch, so nothing too crazy.

ALSO, to connect the laptop to the monitor, do I have to buy this USB C to HDMI cable to connect the two? Or is there another, better way? Thanks!

As others have touched on, it's not gonna make any difference in regards to framerate. However, you can still reap some benefit in terms of response time. This one seems a good pick.

Just so you know, integrated speakers are usually crap. You'd be much better off getting yourself a set of dedicated speakers like a 2.0 setup if you're on a budget.

If you're concern with a dedicated pair of speakers is using it with a computer and something like a gaming console, you can easily connect the speakers to two inputs with a couple of adapters.

If you really must have integrated speakers, an Asus VX228H 21.5" Monitor has a lot of good reviews and the features you're looking for, personally I'd focus more on other specs of a monitor in the $150 price range and get something like this Acer G246HL 24" Monitor and take advantage of a slightly larger screen.

In the end they're really both average monitors and it's not like choosing a monitor with integrated speakers means you have to use them, you could add a set of dedicated speakers in the future.
