is a good starter table. The U Turn is great too. $200 is a big commitment, but anything less and its gonna sound like crap.

Will you also be using the speakers with a TV for better movie and TV sound? Then consider an AV recevier.

Phono preamp if there isn't one build into the receiver: Taking the Guesswork out of Phonostage Gain. The ART DJ Pre II $67 has an adjustable gain dial. The popular Schiit Mani $129 has gain dip switches on the bottom.

Speakers: Bookshelf speakers on stands often have a smaller footprint than floor standing tower speakers.

• My speakers of choice for music are Ascend CBM-170SE $298 + shipping. Neutral sound with a linear frequency response and a great midrange that many speakers lack. Manufacturer direct cuts out the middleman so compare to $500 speakers.
  
• Wavecrest Audio HVL-1, and order on sale at Ascend $80 each + shipping, "budget/baby Ascends" from the same speaker designer. To me, comparable to and better mids than KEF Q100s.
  
• Or DIY build from a kit. 5" C-Note MT $99. A good starter build with a good low end for the size. Add around $30 for supplies and then tools if you don't have them. Kit includes pre-cut cabinets. Glue, solder, paint, assemble. Comparable to built speakers costing two to three times as much.

Hi - Need help deciding as i'm new to the vinyl world and am not confident in what I'm choosing. Looking for a relatively budget/simple set up for the room/small living room. Trying to stay under 400 for the whole thing. Prefer the powered speakers as I've had bad experiences with cheap pre-amps. Looking to make speakers bluetooth compatible via Echo Dot.

A good entry level turntable I will recommend is the Audio-Technica LP-120. Audio-Technica is a pretty reliable brand. They also have an LP-60, which is pretty much a cheaper version of this one.
