dont buy a gaming headset, the sound quality is very bad compared to regular headphones of the same price. most of the cost of a gaming headset is because of marketing and theyre based on regular headphones that are half the price.

theres an example of headphones that are good for the price, but they come without the microphone attached

and then you can just attach a mod mic and you have the sound quality of a $200-300 headset with $100

but if you just want a gaming headset the hyperx cloud is the best, not the best option imo though

edit: forgot to mention the padding is usually less comfortable on gaming headsets as well

those are good too for the price, possibly better but ive never used them so i couldnt say

This should be a "Don't be this guy" post. I am an advocate for headphones over gaming headsets, but saying that people need to improve their standing to afford better is a very elitist thing to say. There are very affordable, high quality headphones, like the [ATH-T400])http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004RO3V7O/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new) from Audio Technica. Instead of telling people that they need to spend more, show them something better, for a similar or lesser price. Such products exist, and insisting that they need to spend more only strengthens their thinking that a shitty gaming headset is the best option for the amount they're willing to spend.

I also believe that you should spend more money on electronics such as headphones and computer hardware. I will never again buy a GPU under $300 after buying a GTX 550Ti for my first build. However many people won't recognize this until they get something of quality. Show them low price, quality parts, and they will learn the nature of technology (you get what you pay for) on their own.

No idea how they sound, but they're quite a bit lower than they've ever been on [amazon] (http://camelcamelcamel.com/Technica-ATH-T400-Closed-Back-Dynamic-Headphones/product/B004RO3V7O).

I have two Audio Technica sets I use (one for home and one for work).

The ATH T400 link:

and the ATH A700

The A700 are a little better (I stress that), but these are open air backed so they sound a little different in general. I used the closed back for work and for gaming lans as the closed back isolates out the noise very well. The Siberias are open backed as well, which is an odd choice for a gaming headset honestly. The ATH T400 are significantly cheaper than either the Astros or SteelSeries even with a separate clip on mic purchase (I recommended the clip on SteelSeries or Zalman mic, both are excellent and inexpensive).
