FWIW, I use this clip-on wide-angle lens on my laptop webcam to increase its fov.
I use it for tracking head (eg PoseNet) and objects (eg tracking.js color). But yes, they are compute intensive and high latency. (There's faster code than PoseNet, but I like its robustness, especially under crappy lighting. And I don't have to wear color dots.)
I was just thinking about Arduino 3DOF tracking yesterday. Virtoba's Google Daydream controller is light weight, making it tempting to attach to a tablet pen to give pose, and (with optical tracking) "wave in the air" 3D drawing and GUI interaction, and a touchpad by the thumb. But its not quite light enough to be a happy thing. Maybe I'll try dremeling its case away...

and Nightcap Pro on my iPhone. That is basically the entire set up :) (Gotten an extension cord to connect my iPhone to the charger while recording long sessions, a picture every 18 seconds (15 second exposure time and 3 second buffer timer).

Disclaimer, it is only an iOS app but there may be an alternative for android. Not sure how specialized some of their long exposure apps are towards night photography.
