I got this loom for tighter stitching, as the pegs are closer together by quite a bit. Otherwise as scuba21 said, doubling up your yarn is the only way I've been successful at a tighter stitch.

Why not get her the Martha Stewart one and maybe some nice yarn to go with it? This one is nice too. The tapestry loom is probably not what she's looking for if she's into loom knitting. Unless she is into weaving as well, it would be completely useless for her.
