This is incredibly helpful. I'll look over all of this and whatever anyone else has to say. Luckily my friend and I both have iPhones so a Røde SmartLav+ on iPhone is definitely possible. The SmartLav also looks very easy to use. One question I do have is I have seen some of the wireless lav mic setups in the $100-$200 range such as this and this. I'm guessing these products don't have the same type of reputation as the others and aren't worth the extra money over the SmartLav? I would imagine this would not be worth the money, but maybe you know differently. Is it just a good deal?

Edit: Also if we end up going for the SmartLav, could you recommend a camera for $300-$400? I figure if we don't need to have all the microphone hook ups we should have some more options in that price range. Also, what would be the best way, in your opinion, to go about syncing up in post? Do we just need to start recording at the same time and put the audio and video channels together? Or is there some fancy way of going about it for multiple takes/altercations in one shooting?

I've used this for the last few years (looks like the design has changed, maybe just the colors though)

Rode has some pretty good budget stuff.

There's also these Azden lavs which a lot of people use. About as cheap as you would want to go, or so I've heard.

I'll give you some critical points that I think you can work on:

  • The video thumbnail text that you use is too light colored and too thin to be visible and easily readable. Compare any of my thumbnails to yours. If you think that only works on Gamers, take a look at Scott Herman Fitness. Thumbnails need to be readable and eye-catching. Take a look at this comparison of your thumbnails. Which one do you want to click on?

  • Please, please, please invest in a lavalier mic. It doesn't have to be this one. In your videos, you turn away from the camera often to show off an exercise. Sometimes because you have your head down, sometimes because it's a back exercise. Either way, in these moments, you are difficult to hear. Audio is more important than video to understanding.

  • Consider a cold open format. A 'cold open' is when you show some of the storyline before the logo. You'll notice this with, say, sitcoms. They show you a quick joke or whatever, then the logo. This invests your viewers. I would recommend a High Energy Elevator Pitch: "Hey YouTube, Today on OneWay we're showing you how to bulk up your stapedius. <LOGO> blah blah blah blah"

That's all I've got the time to go through right now, thanks for your encouragement.
