It depends on the headset. Rift uses externally placed "Sensors" (which are just IR webcams) via USB, Vive uses Lighthouse base stations (which are laser emitters read by the headset and controllers) and Windows Mixed Reality uses "inside out" tracking (which are two camera's on the front of the headset )

In terms of roomscale: Vive offers the biggest tracking area. Next is Rift. Then finally WMR. However WMR is only limited by cable size. (With WMR, you could actually put on a backpack PC and have a bigger space than the Vive, at least in theory). Really thing about standard living room area, or small bedroom. Anything bigger than around 6ft x 6ft.

In terms of ports its: Vive: 1x USB2.0 + 1 HDMI, WMR: 1x USB 3.0 + 1 HDMI. Rift: 3-4x USB3.0 + 1 HDMI (depending on number of Sensors. Two is the minimum for roomscale. Three is recommended). It is not recommended to run any of these headsets on USB hubs, you should plug directly into a USB port

In terms of power/cables: Rift runs everything off USB, this means you probably need USB extension cables to route around your room, for roomscale gaming. Vive headset AC power near the base stations and to the headset, however you don't need to run data cables from the computer to there (thing of Lighthouse like a spotlight the Vive locks onto). WMR is powered only by USB.

In terms of mounting: the Vive and Rift (Sensors/BaseStations) use standard 1/4" thread mounting holes. You can attach them to stands, but there's also clamps and custom mounting. (In my case I use some DJ stands that I mounted the Vive basestations on. For the Rift I use a pair of clamps to mount onto my desks display mount).
