Oh my! Now that is the product I've been looking for, thank you for posting it. It looks like this model will be the one to fit my late 2013 MBPR 15".

Some companies make SD Card adapters for MicroSD Cards specifically meant to add permanent storage to the MacBook Pro without the SD card sticking out. I'm using one with a MicroSD card and it works great and looks likes it's built into the MacBook. I keep Starcraft 2, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Unity, and other heavy duty apps on the MicroSD card and have had no issues with performance whatsoever.

I have lenovo c330 and I'm very happy with it, it does what I need and I love how light it is, I use it to stream all of my media to Chrome cast and for simple browsing when scrolling with ur thumb gets tiresome... But I will warn u that the SD card slot is very shallow the SD card will stick halfway out, I remedied this by buying super small SD to micro SD adapter

The other warning is only 1 USB port and display is nothing spectacular but again I use it to browse and cast so doesnt really bug me

The build is very sturdy and well done despite being plastic

Here's one version, I think you have to match the exact model you have, but I'm not sure. I think eBay has some cheap ones too. I'm going to get one myself.

One other note: I used a micro fiber cleaning cloth from Harbor Freight to clean my MBP and it remove most of the scratches. Only the deep ones are still there.

If it helps I use this in my MBPr with a 128gb micro SD card, flash storage has gotten bigger and cheaper since I got it but haven't had the need to update. It also sits flush in the SD port so you don't notice it and it was a great way to increase my storage by 50%.

The one i used was completely flush and allowed my to add my own SD card

Just make sure its for your modle (to get flush), also some report issues with sleep , never had the issue but i only used it to store movies, dropbox (or what ever i was using at the time .. this was 2013), games (Steam I think) and iTunes

advantage is that you always have it with you, also u might be able to encrypt it so that data protection can be taken care off

the write performance cant compare to a PCIe SSD, but the read is terrific. i highly recommend it.
