Also: don't read any of the chapters that are listed with decimal points. Those are bonus chapters that are meant to be read after you finish the first series. They are formatted poorly and are mixed into the normal chapters.

The physical books are also kept in the original manga format (read right-to-left) instead of mirrored images of the original translation (which are the scans you will find online).

In terms of "anime girls":
Eh, it's Japanese culture. The Alita manga is far less "anime-ish" than most of them. It's a lot more accessible to western audiences, if you ask me.

Edit: none of the manga is in color, it is all pencil-drawn by the author Yukito Kishiro.

Edit 2: Anime is Japanese cartoons. Manga is Japanese comic books.
