There out there, any pedal with midi capabilities can be used to trigger events in programs like FL or Ableton here are a couple I found with a quick search, the Moog one is sweet but a bit pricey.

Yes, I've done exactly as your describing and it works well. You have to have a powered ethernet hub though.

Here's what I've had connected, including the required cables:

Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter (required)

AUKEY 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub with 10 / 100 / 1000 Gigabit Ethernet

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

FCB1010

midi usb cable

powered usb hub (you can't just use the hub w/ ethernet above because it's not powered, if you find a powered one that should work, but that was not how I had mine setup)

I believe I've had some other things plugged in here or there, but this setup listed definitely works. It's not simple and clean, but it works.

Sadly, sustain pedals are restricted to either full off (0) or full on (127) signals. There are no in between values. What you'll need is a MIDI keyboard with an expression pedal output, a MIDI box that accepts an expression pedal, a standalone expression pedal MIDI to USB, or you can go all out and buy MIDI foot controller. There's one by Behringer and one by Roland.

I've been using the Behringer one to use with Amplitube standalone and it works well enough. It has two expression pedals so you can use one for volume swells and the other one for wah. It's a bitch to set up on Windows but once it's going, it's great.

I like the behringer fcb1010, https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-FCB1010-BEHRINGER/dp/B000CZ0RK6 . Programming can be a bit of step dance, but once you get it how you like it there are tons of possibilities and the workflow is fast.
