I picked up a Benjamin 392 and I love it, but I don't know about getting 100-150 yards with it.

It didn't come with a scope, so I threw a rail and a cheapo BSA on it.

Ok, so killing with an air rifle is about shot placement. You have it right with accuracy being the most important feature. I'm assuming you are in the US (Mostly because DonutsOverEverything sounds like one of the most 'murica nicks ever!) so you probably don't have power limits (Though check with your local regs anyway.) if you are in the south a good co2 gun is decent in the spring and fall. CO2 is a temperature sensitive gas and in the summer it can get too hot and valve lock the gun from too much pressure, in the winter it is too cold and the gun will not fire at full pressure. Crosman makes a decent gun called a .2260 that is basically a co2 version of the Discovery model. Nice small gun, easy to use with lot's of modifications. It does have a plastic breach but that can be modified.

If you are in the north or just want an all year gun, I would spend the extra $30 and buy the Benjamin 392. It is a classic multi-pump rifle with a wood stock and a solid reputation. It has been around for a long time and is an heirloom quality gun. I have wanted one for a long time, and I have three pcps and several other guns. http://www.amazon.com/Benjamin-392-Action-Variable-Rifle/dp/B002J1OZ8G

Personally, I would buy a .22 over a .177 but if you have to have a .177 Benjamin has the 397 model as well.

Thanks for the advice and the leads. The B 392 is about the same price as the Titan, but the Titan comes with a basic scope. Is the B392 going to make me so much happier (knowing I know can refine either of them a bit) that it would be worth the extra chunk of change when I am a starving student and would like to get shooting as soon as I can, so that when hunting season rolls around I have myself dialed back in?

I have not heard a lot of comlaints about the recoil shaking the optics loose. Is this common or is it just cheap optics? Is it somethign I'll need to worry about with all less expensive rifles or just springers, or just springers with bad optics?

Guess I better do some research on your forums!
