They don't have better sound then the 595.

And i think these are THE BEST headset out there.

You sure it wasn't Beyer's own 770 with a mic?

Ah, the boom mic's the rub. Plenty of good $150 closed circum- and supra-aural headphones that you would like.

Generally would suggest going the add-on route for the mic. That way you don't have to take the cleaver to your choice set and pick from the crumbs that remain. The boom mic can be a problem, as the good ones are tough to find now. The AntLion linked is out of stock, which is awful because it approximated this headset for a nothing price tag.

V-moda is suppose to have a plug-in boom for their M-series but can't even find that on their site right now. The V-moda M-80 would be on the list of $150 of fun though if you can handle on-ear rather than over ear. The m100 over-ear version is a rather steeply inclined to $300. They both have good in-line mics though if you can forgo the boom as long as the mic is there.

Another add-on options is the Fiio Rocky which is a nice little addition to any setup. The mic is solid and it has a metal clip, in case you'd rather have it strapped to your collar rather than deal with a dangling cord mic.

Philips Uptown and Downtown both have inline mics and are good quality audio at a (constantly tumbling) price point. Some people complained about the Uptown's volume slider on the cord mic but as the price point continues down that might be less worrisome. Super comfortable at any price too. Their Fidelio also has a mic but I have never heard or used them. They are the premiums though.

Other than that, you can go even deeper into the quasi-DIY and find an adapter that you can then hook into almost ANY microphone setup. That's sort of the reverse solution, starting with getting the gaming mic situation handled and then adding any headphone.

There is a technology called CMSS that the Creative X-FI sound card has which works GREAT.

Footsteps / reloads are really easy to make out. I can hear the scopes of all of the scoped weapons, not just awps very well too.

I also use Beyer Dynamic headphones which are the best headphones i've ever owned: http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-MMX-300-Premium-Microphone/dp/B001BYMZ5W

Okay. I have gained all of this knowledge from hours of research. I am not an audiophile, but a rising one. The AD700s are not for those that want pure enjoyment during gameplay. They are airy and do not provide that much bass. These headphones are good for competitive gameplay. i.e. if you you want to hear other players' footsteps and such. Otherwise, no, these are not good headphones for casual gaming.

The antlion modmic has some flawless reviews and each of them glorify it. Adding to that, it is a boom mic, it is easily attachable, easily adjustable, and does not pick up any unwanted sound. This is pretty hard to beat in my books. I have nothing against the zalman zm-mic1 in general, but for gaming it is not up to par with the antlion modmic. If I have yet to find anything better and more convenient than the antlion mic.

The headphones that I am targeting are miles ahead of any headset. The only headsets that I will recommend are the PC 360s or the Beyerdynamic MMX 300s. These are both great headsets, yet are quite expensive if you're on a tight budget. The headphones I am soon to recommend are professional audiophile-approved headphones. They are widely accepted in the audiophile community. Headsets besides the ones I recommended are nothing but a marketing scheme. They advertise 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, yet they are nothing but gimmicks with crappy drivers. Speakers are much better if you're looking into surround sound. For pc gaming, the closest you can get to in high-end audio quality are these headphones. The microphones are only a necessity if you treat them as one. When you pair these headphones with a decent sound card and/or amp and use Dolby Headphone software, they do wonders.

The Samsons are merely there for those on a tight budget. They are a wonderful set of cans and I have heard great things about them in the audiophile community. If you don't have much money to spend, I suggest you get them.

Burning-in may be a myth but many in the audiophile community see it as truth. The drivers loosen up after a period of time, allowing for more quality sound. Burn-in times vary from headset to headset. With the SR850s, the audio quality is supposed to be outstanding in general and close to godly considering their price range. They are not better than all of the headphones out there. I would call them mid-range headphones. They are however, better than any headSET that I have encountered.

The average person may not notice the difference between a brand new set of cans and one that has burn in time on its belt, yet in some headphones the change is noticeable. They will sound more crisp, clear, and in some cases have more refined bass. This is the case with the SR850s. Burning in for more than 100+ hours is the standard for most headphones, yet as I said before, times vary from headset to headset.

Since this is an enthusiast subreddit, focused on everything extreme, I was assuming that all of you here would want the very best. Audio is a crucial component of pc gaming and I am just telling you that there is a better option than the headsets that many have been glorifying as of late. If you have the money, I happily suggest these headphones: for competitive play: K701/2, Q701, ATH-AD700, DT 990, HD 598, Ultrasone Pro 900, Samson SR850. If you want to look into other headphones, I suggest looking at the link I posted above, as it denotes the best headphones, in order, for competitive gameplay and for enjoyment.

I highly recommend doing some research and finding the best headset for your budget. There are much better alternatives to what is being advertised for gaming. Although companies market these 'gaming headsets' that have outstanding reviews, I can say with utmost confidence, that headphones w/ attachable microphones are most definitely the better choice.

Thanks for reading and I thank you especially for questioning me :)

EDIT: These are not theories. These are facts that are widely accepted by the audiophile community.

not sure what your budget is, but the hyperx clouds are based off of much more expensive sets and are most likely made way, way, wayyy better than anything from plantronics that was mentioned here for $19.

if you have to have a headset and not just headphones + modmic, and dont want to spend a few hundred on beyerdynamic mmx300 (what the hyperx are based off of basically, what i have used for a few years. these are truly bifl, they are absolute tanks) or the sennheiser game zero i would highly recommend the clouds at around $90.

just not sure how buy for life a plasticy $19 set is gonna be....

also, dont worry about 5.1 or 7.1 in a headphone. it doesnt actually do anything. you still only have 2 speakers, 1 in each side. 5.1 in headphones is a lie. any decent set will let you know the directions of sounds without fake 5.1.

most of the so called "gaming headsets" are nothing but crap. they may look flashy and have flashy features, but in the end most are just crap. turtle beach, siberia, razer headsets. just avoid them. get real headphones or something at least from a company that makes headphones and you will be much happier.

I need one too. I recently bought a pair of these:

Beyerdynamic MMX 300

u/angryflamer100 · 1 pointr/GlobalOffensive

>There is no way in hell that a microphone attached to headphones is going to cost $20 more than the pair of headphones alone.

$20 is very understandable; I would be happy if it were just $20. Beyerdynamic wants over $100 more for their headset options of the DT-770 and DT-250; MMX 300 and DT-290 respectively.

If price is no object -- and I mean really no object -- the Beyerdynamics MMX 300 (I got it cheaper than that, but can't find a better link) is absolutely the lightest, most incredibly comfortable and best-sounding headset I have ever had experience with. It's really top-of-the-line in every way. Condenser mic, excellent sound isolation, comfortable velour earpads that literally do not feel like you're even wearing anything. Mic swivels easily out of the way when you don't need it. I often wear these all day to listen to music. I have a pair of Etymotic ER-4S in-ear headphones and these are easily on par with those both for sound quality and isolation, and they are even more comfortable.

I had just about sworn off on poor quality mid-range headsets before this. My previous set was Steelseries' top of the line and I found them cheaply made, poor sound, awful mic and relatively uncomfortable to wear.

They are Beyerdynamic MMX300s. Cost me $600 when I bought it about 4 years ago here - the pads are very worn out. If you live in the 'states you should be able to find them for cheap.. they are basically DT770's with a mic. here is one place you can get them. You can customise a pair on Beyer's website here.

u/6months23days · 1 pointr/headphones

It does look like one of their models, the QH-1339 is literally a rebranded Beyerdynamic MMX300, not the rest though like you said. The Superlux headphones are another good example of "inspired by" headphone design.

The Beyerdynamic MMX-300 is basically the "top tier" of gaming headsets.

It is essentially a Beyerdynamic DT770 audiophile headphone with a mic. You get overcharged out the ass for it, but whatever, it's top tier right?
