I hike in shorts almost exclusively until the temps stay around 40° during they day, then I wear pants. My sleep pants are a pair of running tights that I will hike in during the morning. They weigh 4oz for a small and are very comfy to hike in under my shorts. If I'm expecting a really rainy trip, I'll pack a second "dry" pair for camp, and at a 4oz penalty it works fine.
I've been eying these as a pair of wind pants. Some folks here have used them and like them just fine, and the price is right and they weigh less than my tights by an oz or so.
