There is a separate gadget you can buy that measures yardage. I have a lot of the same. Still stash-able. I wind my mystery yarn into cakes while using a yardage measuring tool. Once that is done I weigh it. Now I know how many grams per yard. Then you just have to figure out if it's worsted or what.
