Reddit reviews Brahms & Carter: Clarinet Quintets

I haven't heard enough to say with confidence what is best, but I can name some pieces that I really have enjoyed. The cello concerto is fantastic, and so are the Variations for Orchestra. Both have a feeling of telling a grand story, with big contrasts between movements giving a strong sense of a change of setting and mood. I also love the clarinet quintet, and I'm very fond of this CD containing that and some other chamber work (as well as a terrific recording of the Brahms).
