All geodes are unique, so they’re not going to be identical, but similar. Like siblings. For example, Las Choyas geodes commonly have blueish tinged interiors, but not all will have the black needle-like inclusions/formations that are present in this particular geode. Some will have larger, more cavernous interiors with large terminated points while some will be shallower and have bubbly looking chalcedony formations. You just never really know until you open it! There is plenty of room for variety in geodes from the same mine.

Here is a link to a product on Amazon that sources their geodes in the kit from “multiple mines”. Personally, if I’m going to put in the effort to open one myself, I prefer to open geodes that are 2.5” across or more. I find that anything smaller is a pain to make halves out of. It’s one thing if you want to HULK SMASH SEE PRETTY ROCKS vs opening more carefully for displaying.

I had a kit similar to his excavation kit when I was younger, and I loved it. It was a plaster block, and I got to dig out gems from it. I found a few similar ones on Amazon -- [a National Geographic version] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0160JBGRA?psc=1), a [less expensive version] (https://www.amazon.com/GeoCentral-Rock-Crystal-Excavation-Dig/dp/B00BGYR0LG), an [iron pyrite version] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JF1VUHQ?psc=1). This [geode kit] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TUC6RS?psc=1) has geodes that you get to break open. Here are some [similar options] (https://www.fatbraintoys.com/toy_companies/discover_with_dr_cool/) all made by the same company.

You can actually buy unbroken geodes fairly cheaply. Not quite opal, but still fun. There's no guarantee that they'll actually have crystals in them but if you buy a handful you'd probably get some unless you're really unlucky. Here's an example.
