2010 ex, same problem. I use this now. It's plugged into the (now useless) usb port for power with a 3.5 male to male cable snaked through the console to the aux jack. It works great.
edit- My phone rides in a Spiderpodium mounted on the parking brake handle.

There’s a member here that sells inserts that go where the blank buttons are between the shifter and cup holder. Fits an iPhone X. I also have a bendy spider thing that I can slide into a vent that will hold any phone:
