I had a similiar issue, my old stick was naturally a little loose and hyper sensitive, so just resting my hand on it caused it to input roll because it was loose enough that the idle weight of my tiny little hands was moving it. This resulted in having to make the deadzones WAY bigger than I wanted them to be.
If you're in the market for a new controller heres some options from least to most expensive as well as amazon links for buying them.
Xbox 360 Pad: $28
Steam Controller: $50
T-Flight HOTAS X: $50
Xbox One Controller + Wireless PC Adapter: $63
Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS: $108
Xbox One Elite Controller: $140
X-52: $150
Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS: $449

Okay with the all in one box stuff out of the way there are some good mix and match options from CH Products which I'll list below. My current set up is CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals, + HTC Vive for headtracking (or ED Tracker for headtracking when I don't want VR)
CH Flightstick: $75
CH Combatstick: $94
CH Fighterstick: $116
CH Flight Sim Yoke: $120
CH Pro Pedals: $121
CH Pro Throttle: $123
CH Eclipse Yoke: $201
Also note that the joysticks and throttles from the Thrustmaster FCS and Warthog can be bought separately making them worth considering as options here.
FINALLY I will leave you with a word of warning. The Saitek X-55 and X-56 might look tempting, but they have shoddy build quality and will break on you. I used to have an X-55, and I've seen the inside of the X-56 and they both have the same problems. They are a time bomb, do not buy them. Also someone will more than likely eventually comment saying they own one of these devices and have had zero issues out of them, lucky them I hope they never have an issue, but Saitek is known for terrible Quality Control and with the exception of the X-52 buying a Saitek product is not worth the gamble even though Logitech now owns them and is known for great build quality, there are too many items from when Mad Catz owned them floating around in the wild.

It probably should be mentioned that the CH combat stick, or any CH stick, does not have the twist capability for yaw. The CH combat stick is made for your right hand. So you will end up with 2 sticks that are for your right hand, so that might be a problem. Especially if you are used to using the twist a yaw. I personally didn't find yaw that important in E:D unless I was using non gimbal weapons. But I am a ED newb.
Should you buy it really depends on the price. Check Amazon for used Combat sticks to at least get a comparison. US Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00006B84W/ref=olp_sort_ps?ie=UTF8&f_new=true&f_used=true&f_usedAcceptable=true&f_usedGood=true&f_usedLikeNew=true&f_usedVeryGood=true
Will it last? The answer is most likely yes. CH builds the longest lasting products in the market from my understanding. I myself bought a used Combat stick off Amazon. So far so good. It's been about 3 months since my purchase, and the stick works great.
Quality wise, how does this compare to the CH Products equivalent?
For example: http://www.amazon.com/CH-Products-200-568-USB-Combatstick/dp/B00006B84W/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1426794975&sr=1-3
I've been thinking of upgrading my HOTAS, but from everything I've read, CH Products is superior in quality, though not in looks. Have any advice?
The 100$ budget makes this one hard.
here are your options
CH pro Combatstick which is based on the old a10 joystick
other then that you can ebay for a Saitek X45 or X52
VKB and virpil are not going to be close to that price, unless you stop caring about bottons then you can get the vkb gladiator with few button and no replaceable grip . The new Virpil Constellation is going to be most likely more then 100 for just grip and the new low cost base is 200$.
CH Products is the answer you were looking for.
Done, full HOTAS setup, highest quality parts, great software, for $225. Or swap the Fighterstick for the Combatstick and give up two hat switches for standard buttons and save $20. All without the crappy madcatz saitek glitzy design & cheap plastic.
Triple the price gets you a CH Combatstick, which is far superior. The T16000M is great for its price range, but it's not that good.
they are replicas of real flight sticks, not sci-fi glowy joysticks.
and they are sturdy enough you could probably beat someone over the head with it and go right back to flying.
as for price they are in the middle ground.
$61 for flightstick
$78 for the combatstick
$98 for the fighterstick
it's pretty much the best quality you can get without spending multiple hundreds on a warthog or black mamba
Excellent feedback. I am thinking about grabbing the Combatstick for ~$80
But a close friend of mine suggested the Thrustmaster T-Flight for a slightly higher price. ~$95
Which one would you guys go for?
