You know you can pick up a copy of C&C the first decade right?

Personally, generals with the zero hour expansion is by far my favorite. RA2 was cool at the time but I think Generals just has so much more fun to offer. A lot of Westwood fanboys will disagree with me. EA came in and just whooped ass with that game but unfortunately anything later than the Zero Hour expansion is complete crap. CnC 3 is ok but not nearly as good as it should have been, CnC 4 is just garbage, RA3 pretty much went full blown retarded with its comic book and slutty commando babes motif.

Here is the question though... Why choose either when you can have both for fairly cheap? http://www.amazon.com/Command-Conquer-First-Decade-Pc/dp/B000CPKIT6

Dwarf Fortress
Football Manager
Civilization III, IV, V
Rome: Total War
There's also a box out there called "Command & Conquer: The First Decade", which is every C&C and Red Alert game up to C&C Generals in one box. That should be worth a few weeks of entertainment.

The C&C First Decade Pack (http://www.amazon.com/Command-Conquer-First-Decade-Pc/dp/B000CPKIT6/) doesn't require Origin IIRC.

As someone who bought the Command and Conquer First Decade (a separate thing) a few years ago in boxed form, they can definitely fit 12 of those games on a single CD.

It's not that they are lazy, it's that they're seriously trying to push Digital Distribution. Origin won't be used by folks unless they are forced to, for the most part.

Well for what it's worth, most of the "classic" C&C games have been released as freeware. This includes the original C&C, C&C2, and Red Alert. However, if you really want Generals and Red Alert 2, your best bet is The First Decade which has everything pre-C&C3 on one tidy disc. :)

Here you go

Some of the older games might need some patching in order to work depending on your computer (here), but it has RA2 in addition to a bunch of others.

Amazon product page

Basically, it's a bundle of all the C&C games made up to that point, tweaked to run on modern computers.

There's a collection called "Command & Conquer: The First Decade" that installs from the DVD and only makes you enter serial numbers. Amazon link. I think they run fine on Windows 7, but I didn't try all of them.

C&C 3 and 4, and Red Alert 3, are all on Steam, and will probably be on sale at christmas.

Also, the game + expansion is included in the bundle Command and Conquer: The First Decade. That bundle also has all the old C&C games, and for any price is a steal. Also, the C&C FPS is... well, interesting.

I have this, and last time I checked it worked on Windows 7 if you set up the compatibility mode correctly.

I believe RA3 is the newest, but they came out with an expansion pack that can be played stand-alone that also has some balancing changes called RA3 Uprising

This is the version I've been playing since I kind of assume that the expansion is "better" than the vanilla game in respect to balancing. RA3 Uprising is also on Steam

I know there are also a few official compilations of the early games such as The First Decade which I believe installs as the original games did in terms of the install process, however it does NOT include the newer games-CNC3 and RA3 that I mentioned. On the other hand The Ultimate Collection is a digital download that uses the Origin client which can understandably be a turn-off, especially since people have had issues playing the older games on newer operating systems, but is the most complete collection of Command & Conquer games to date.

Personally, if you can wait for another steam sale I would recommend doing so because you can probably get RA3 and CNC3 and their respective expansion packs (Uprising for RA3/Kanes Wrath for CNC3)
much cheaper, since RA3 was only 5.99$ USD on sale compared to 19.99$ USD normally.

If you prefer to get only one game now and the others on sale, I would recommend them based on which play style you enjoy. Command & Conquer 3:Tiberium Wars controls similar to C&C:Generals in the sense that you place buildings from a unit that builds them, compared to the click and drop style of the Red Alert Games, however, in Red Alert 3, the 3 different Factions each have a unique style meaning that one faction "Empire of the rising Sun" for example, constructs buildings by means of a vehicle that unpacks into said building. The "Allied Nations" construct buildings by means of clicking the building, then selecting where to build, then having the timer go down as its built on-site. The final faction "The Soviet Union" constructs buildings by selecting a building, having the build timer complete, then selecting where to place the "finished" building

TL;DR If you enjoy the play style of Red Alert and Red Alert 2, get Red Alert 3. If you enjoy the play style of Generals, get CNC 3:Tiberium Wars.

For anyone not willing to wait, and/or who doesn't care about the new titles, The First Decade is a compliation of all the games up to Generals.

u/Wyatt1313 · 1 pointr/commandandconquer

It comes with the first decade. It's usually cheaper to get the first decade then just generals and it comes with the expansion. Depending where you live you might find it an old video game place that still has computer games. If not just get a prepaid visa (if under age) and order it at amazon. This is Canadian mind you but that's where I live. Good luck!

Or check out Steam, sometimes they are practically giving them away.

I picked up the whole Command and Conquer series off of Frys for $10, it was a single DVD with all the games.

Don't listen to other posters here, buy C&C the First Decade

http://www.amazon.com/Command-Conquer-First-Decade-Pc/dp/B000CPKIT6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370125544&sr=8-1&keywords=c%26C+first+decade

For 10 bucks. Then download the patches here http://cnp.cncnz.com/tfd/

And start from the beginning. With the original c&c. One of the best games ever. Red Alert 1 is a close 2nd. Play the originals before progressing to the later games, which lost a lot of the fun for corny acting and half naked women.
