This is the best solution. Buy a bunch of Command Hooks and do a neat job, and your landlady probably won't mind.

Get one of those. super glue a piece of wire across the back of the pub, make sure there's not much slack. Hang it from the hook
Move your monitor to whatever position will require the most available cable. Gather a little bit of slack at a fixed point on the mount, and zip-tie it in place. Now, when you move your monitor around, you'll know you always enough slack in the cable to avoid tugging on it.
You could also add something on the monitor side, e.g. a right-angle connector in the port, and/or something like this with a rubber band around the hook and the cable to help it stay in position and avoid movement perpendicular to the plane of the port.
