This was the book.My hairdresser gave it to me to read as she did my deva curl haircut
Really, shampoo does a lot more damage to curly hair, largely because curly hair tends to be baby fine (mine sure is). I started using the shampoo free method after I read The Curly Girl Handbook, but I know a few people with straight hair who do something similar. It's definitely more common for it to work for curly haired people, though.
