I have like 15 pairs of these. They're very expensive, but you can usually get a pro deal and it brings them down to about 15/pr.
I've used smart wool, and I very much prefer these. Plus they're made in America and carry a lifetime warranty, so if you ever wear them out you can send them in for a new pair.
I really don't think you can do much better than Darn Tough Socks, they aren't cheap, but they are comfy, warm, will last for years, and they even come with a lifetime guarantee.

I have a good amount of quality socks from when I was testing out different brands. CHUP, Anonymous Ism, People Socks, Wigwam, Smartwool, Kapital, Kirkland, Carhartt, Orvis and Darn Tough.
Darn Tough is easily my favorite, it really isn't even close. I don't think I will buy any other socks unless someone makes a really compelling argument to try out a different brand.
Just buy Darn Tough for everything. I have a thicker boot pair that is my favorite, a thinner type of the same length that is great for my closer fitting boots or sneakers and I have a pair that is about ankle height.

the oatmeal, olive, and blue/oatmeal will work fine with those if you want Darn Toughs.
Buy one or two pair and make sure you like them. Use them in everyday life, including 2-3 days worn, hanging to air out overnight if possible.
Darn Tough is what I wear almost exclusively now, regardless if I’m traveling or at home. I wear the low cut ones in warm months and taller ones during cold weather.
