I'd have said DZ but he foolishly believes he could beat me out in GASP this upcoming season, despite knowing I'm statistically the best defender from season 6.5. What a chump.

Carbon. He recommended the monitor that I purchased. What a champ.

u/jallsopp · 5 pointsr/battlestations

Sold one of my BenQ RL2455HMs the other day and I should have sold my other one within the next few days.

I have aprox £200-£250 to spend on a single, good monitor. What would you suggest? I want something that looks nice, has IPS and 1440p. 25" preferably, higher is good also. Looking at either the Dell U2515H or the AOC Q2577Pwq. Any ideas? Thanks.

For VR gaming you need to hit a stable 90 FPS. The Ryzen 5 1600 is fine for that. It also has 6 cores and is on AM4, a platform that will see future upgrade options. That makes it a future proof pick.

For the gpu: You could just get a GTX 1060. But for VR and displays with higher resolutions, a GTX 1070 is better. Since the GTX 1070 is overpriced we end up at a GTX 1080 for 30€ more.

The HDD has 7200 RPM and 64 MB cache, those are the core specifications to look at, aside from actual performance in reviews. For SSDs the difference do not matter that much, and the SanDisk Plus is okay. The main advantage of SSDs is the small latency, which you get from that model.

The Ryzen 5 1600 is overclockable when getting at least a B350 board, thus we get one. X370 would be overclockable as well, but does not have many advantages. The main one is SLI support, which games are not supporting properly.

The psu is a very good one for its price. The case is a nice budget case.

Ah, the display. Given that you are already on VR you could get a high FPS display, or a 1440p one. Both options have its drawbacks and advantages. I'd get a nice 1440p display like https://www.amazon.de/Dell-210-ADZG-U2515H-Monitor/dp/B00P6O3YYO/ and profit from its high DPI. A 144Hz option would be https://www.amazon.de/AOC-G2460PF-Reaktionszeit-Displayport-FreeSync/dp/B01BV1XBEI/. Freesync won't be supported by your gpu, you need n AMD gpu for that. A Gsync display is a bit too expensive for the budget.

It's the Dell U2515H. 25" is perfect for using 2560x1440 without scaling, but having extra workspace! And for what it is, the price is great.

u/kiwiandapple · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

Alright! Indeed it's not too easy to buy PC parts!
I was also a bit tired and did not spend a lot of time to look at reviews for these 2 monitors. I mostly looked at the specs and then did a very quick google search for reviews. This was not the best way to deal with it.

AOC AOC q2770Pqu

You are correct and I am actually slightly stupid. TFTcentral is probably the best monitor review site to look at.
The AOC monitor isn't the easiest monitor to buy especially for your use. It's great for a run at a office or I don't care to much monitor.
I just saw it had a PLS monitor and was like, awesome! Since I personally also have a PLS monitor and expected it to be amazing. As you can see in the above video about "different monitor panels". PLS is a technique used by Samsung and in general very high quality.

TLDR: Now I spare you the time to read the whole very in-depth review and provide you with a few pointers: If you really want to know more about these specifications, feel free to use the quick browse menu at the top.

  • The out of the box calibration is not perfect. So you have to spend a bit of time to calibrate it. Luckily TFTCentral does alot of the work for you.
  • Despite the very good calibrated performance, the q2770Pqu isn’t a very good option for people in the graphics industry, because of the rather mediocre uniformity. With the naked eye it’s very hard to see, but the difference in brightness is fairly large.
  • The uniformity of a display is one of the most important performance aspects that determine the image quality, together with contrast ratio and colour depth. The monitor sadly does not perform as great here.
  • For gaming; you probably want to use the overdrive setting set to "medium" for best results. It is alright, but not the best either.

    Iiyama ProLite XB2779QS

This review is one of the only I could really find and honestly, it looks good from what I could read about it.

    TLDR:

  • Our colour calibrator showed it was already displaying 99.7 per cent of the sRGB colour gamut.
  • The Iiyama Prolite XB2779QS is expensive for a 27in monitor, but it's still significantly cheaper than the Ultimate award-winning Dell U2713H. Altough after a quick search here; the Dell U2715H is €548 on Amazon.
  • The review is fairly short and it does not have a very in depth look at it, like TFTCentral does.

Can you provide me with a bad review?

New monitors that I can highly recommend!

    Review
    | €548

This monitor is something I can highly recommend. I know it's pretty expensive, but you will get a quickly monitor for it in return.
I can't really give a TLDR to much. But if you simply look at the conclusion. You'll notice that it's very good. The sharpness and color calibration is amazing.

    Dell U2515H | Review | €370

This is the monitor I am personally looking at to get - it's only going to be the option if I can't afford the 3440x1440p resolution monitors that currently hover around the €700 market. I can't say much more than this. I do want it if money is too short. I know that it's not as big as you want, but really the size makes this monitor so amazing.

I know that this sounds a lot like a fanboy since.. Dell a lot.
I have the Dell P2314H, which currently standard at my brothers place. I really love the quality that you get from Dell. It's just amazing. Despite it not even being an ultrasharp, it really is amazing in terms of picture quality.

    Asus PB278QR | Review | €496

This is an other great, 27" PLS monitor. Don't know why it didn't show up in my first search that I did earlier. I again can't really say too much about this, but just have to refer to the review. Look at the conclusion to get a great rundown. It's not as great as the Dell 27" one, but it's very very close.

Hopefully one of the above 3 monitors grabs you interest and perhaps even the AOC monitor might be good enough for your needs? Let me know!

Dell 25 inch ultra sharp, 1440p monitor that I use in portrait next to a 43 inch 4k TV.

u/R-A-S-0 · 2 pointsr/pcgamingtechsupport

I'd encourage you to look into 1440p displays. Better picture quality than 1080p with much lower performance impact than 4k. It's more or less the ideal resolution for your GPU. You'll get 60+ fps on most new games.

Additionally, there is very little native 4k content out there (outside of gaming). As I understand it, the only web browser capable of displaying even 1080p content on Netflix is Edge. I don't even think the Windows App lets you watch in 4k, though I haven't done much research on this; you may want to look it up.

For just a little more than that 4k display you listed, you can get a 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor (I can't overstate how wonderful G-Sync is).

These are worth a look:

  • Dell S2716DG (TN)

  • Asus PG278Q (TN)

  • Asus PG279Q (IPS)

  • Acer XB271HU (IPS)

Or course, you could save some money by going with a 60hz panel, or a 144hz without G-Sync. My brother has this Dell monitor; it's only 60hz and it doesn't have G-Sync, but the picture quality is fantastic for the price.

For what it's worth, I use the PG279Q that I linked with a GTX 980ti, which performs very similarly to your 1070, and it really is the 'sweet spot' for that card.

    Good luck with your search!

Edit: That 1080p Asus monitor you mentioned looks pretty great too. I'd choose that over 4k any day, but it's all personal preference in the end.
u/JoeB35 · 2 pointsr/Monitors

Thanks for the help everyone. As you've suggested all of the options are way above my budget. I'll probably go for a non-gaming option again and deal with the screen tearing. Looking at this FYI https://www.amazon.co.uk/DELL-U2515H-ADZG-25-Inch-Monitor/dp/B00P6O3YYO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466550801&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+u2515h as I'm currently using the 1080p version. Other than screen tearing it's great.

u/libertine88 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

But Asus and Acer have more stringent QC processes. The reason these korean panels are cheap is because they are the rejected batches used by the big manufacturers. You can of course get lucky and get a perfect korean monitor just as much as you can be unlucky and get an asus/acer that has problems.

> 1440p at 144hz though

Only one of the monitors mentioned above is native 144hz. The others are all overclockable. When you overclock those korean panels you can get horrendous gamma shift which will destroy the colour reproduction as well as dropped frames.

> £500 is still a lot of money for one.
edit, and the Dell is TN.

what are you talking about?

Here is a dell 1440p IPS monitor for £250

at 60hz 1440p gaming there is virtually no reason to get a korean monitor over this.

The korean monitors with freesync however remain a bit of a mystery, i have no experience with them, however given the issues early monitors from asus etc had with freesync implementation, I'm certainly not convinced the korean monitors will provide as fluid an experience, but I may be wrong.

You should also check out the U2515H by Dell. https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00P6O3YYO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF

I'm trying to decide between the P2416D and U2515H myself. ;) The P2416D is, by far, the least expensive 1440p monitor available. It also has the greatest featured stand and connectivity... much like the U2515H.

Both obviously aren't 27", sadly.

Edit: If you don't care about IPS, are fine with a TN panel AND own an AMD card, I'd say go for the 27" IIYAMA FreeSync model.

How about this one?

Not too sure on the price it is in Turkey (£295 here in the UK) but I'm loving it so far.

Dell U2715H 27 inch 1440p 60hz 450 euros

25 inch model is 100 euros cheaper

Great picture and color quality, very bright, and I can't say enough good things about Dell monitor stands. They are the best.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-GW2765HT-Widescreen-Multimedia-Monitor/dp/B00M913DVG is not the best (1 frame input lag) but the cheapest 1440p IPS at 27". if you are willing to go smaller.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/DELL-U2515H-ADZG-25-Inch-Monitor/dp/B00P6O3YYO

It's a better screen than the benq (low input lag) and cheaper but also small. This one is within your budget.

this build will do everything you need it to do and do it like a beast.

For monitors you can either go with 2 of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00P6O3YYO/ref=psdc_428652031_t2_B00OA2I362

or you can go with something like this:

Dell Ultra HD 4K Monitor P2415Q 24-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor

or a 27 inch here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PC9HFNY/ref=twister_B014R6J7VU?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

and get a really cheap monitor like this:http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-monitor-fx2490hd
that would be my recommendation. get the 27 inch if your really going to need it, and the 20 dollor TV, or get a 24 inch version

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-P2415Q-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00PC9HFNY

and save the extra money. Just my 2 cents. GL on the build! promise you wont regret it :D

This seems like a bargain (1440p screen, £264). Can anyone see any catches?

Alright, changed a few things.

I'm no expert in coolers really, but I've always heard that noctua ones are the best air coolers out there, while corsair usually has the most popular AIO water coolers, so you could start you research from this (example of corsair water cooler)

I put in a better mobo which should, in theory, be more reliable (although I'm not sure that's true. Some people claim that ASRock mobos are not as reliable as asus, msi or gygabyte ones since they cost less, while others claim that they don't give any problem. Not sure where the truth lies. Anyway this asus one also as a few cool things, like auto-OC. Also keeps the usb 3.1 A and 3.1 C as the asrock mobo).

kb+m, added the best ones out there, your choice now (ps the corsair k70 costs 144 on amazon though, 187 with RGB. PCPartPicker has it wrong :/. The logitech g502 is also much cheaper)

As for the monitor it really depends on the gpu and on your needs. If you are ok with a 1080p panel and you want an nvidia gpu, get a good IPS panel and be done with it. (example 1, example 2, example 3).

G-Sync monitors are usually waaay to pricy. Seriously, nvidia should cut the shit down, it's stupid that you can't get a gsync monitor for under 500€...

If you instead go the red route, you can get a freesync monitor cheaply on amazon (but they usually aren't IPS). (example 1-75hz, example 2-144hz)

If you want a higher res panel, then you should get a 1440p one. Gaming at 4K is not really feasible IMHO, even with a gtx1080. (example 1, example 2)

If you do a lot of editing and stuff you could also be interested in a 21:9 monitor (example 1example 2, example 3)

edit: high end new gen amd cards come out this winter BTW. Check news for Vega architecture.

I'm looking at this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00P6O3YYO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1EGZMH136V419&coliid=I451XQ5STE0C3&psc=1

I am aware there a slightly cheaper ones out there but this one looks so sleek and nice. Thin bezels, nice stand, has VESA mount option...
