I'm lusting after this monitor but can't really justify it at the moment.

Seeking monitor recommendation

I'm currently looking at the Dell UltraSharp U2515H 25-Inch 2560 x 1440 and the Dell Ultra HD 4K Monitor P2415Q 24-Inch. I know I want higher pixel density than 1080p, and the first monitor fits that bill, but should I go further to 4K since it doesn't cost that much more? Also, what is the current state of Windows 10 applications and high-density screens?

Clamshell mode. If the computer is plugged with the power cord it can run just the external monitor.

Some people only need one large display for use at home? My personal use is a 1440p monitor with a cMBP.

Does the laptop get hot? To an extent nothing really that would cause the computer thermal throttle.

U2515H is an IPS monitor. I just got one a couple weeks ago and love it.

It's a bit pricier. But overall color, sharpness and resolution have been serving me well, going to get one for the home office as well.

Is there a reason why you feel you need Adobe RGB? when you say "minor editing" I hear "primarily for posting online, occasional printing" in which case sRGB should be plenty, and in which case I would STRONGLY recommend the DELL Ultrasharp 25inch which I have and love. You could get one for $250, and two with an arm for $600.

Yes Amazon really kicked up the price for this model since last month. I got it for 31K locally. Check with a retailer if you have one in your city. A 970 will have some problems pushing so many pixels though at 4k. You will have to turn down the settings to medium/high and probably still won't get 60fps.

There is another option, the DELL U2515H. 25", 1440p/60Hz, IPS panel. VESA compatible. Slightly slow 6-8ms response time. The price in Amazon has come down nicely to 26.5K, was above 30 till last month. The only thing is that I have heard about quality control issues from its buyers. Otherwise this is good for a 970.

I bought a Dell U2515h in November and it's fantastic. The thin bezel and dell's monitor stand are what really made it stand out to me. It's currently $349.99 on amazon if you're willing to max out your budget. TechCentury also had a pretty good review on it that I recommend checking out.

Something like a U2515h would meet your requirements.
Has 2 HDMI ports and audio out.
Also has good color accuracy.

As you can see, when un-calibrated, the average DeltaE was nearly 6, which isn't amazing by any standards, but perfectly usable for non enterprise applications. When calibrated, however, can reach as low as 2 or lower DeltaE values, average, which is extremely good for sub 400.

And, while I didn't immediately find a good page to display it, the Dell UltraSharp U2515H covers 99% of the sRGB color space out of the box, supposedly.

Additionally, both monitors are 1440p, so you'll have that added benefit!

If you want more suggestions, let me know, especially if you think either of these monitors aren't quite what you're looking for. Also, this was my result after about half an hour of quick refreshing on the monitor market, so I can definitely look a little harder if I need to.

thanks for the info, the monitor I wanted to buy dell U2515h. the inbuilt graphic card I have is hd 620 and according to the info given over a live chat with acer custumer care it will not output a 2k display. So what should I do?

You may have to raise your budget to around $450-500. Not sure about VESA compatibility on most of these, but I think the HP has it. I believe there are cheaper/better options, but not with thin bezels and VESA as far as I know, but I could be wrong.

I've researched for a while & really asked to question b/c I didn't see them listed as much as some others, but IMO they are the best. I also like the ASUS equivalents as well. Most of what I see are monitors catered towards gaming, and that is great but I also want to have kickass colors & build quality.

To me, my requirements were met with the Ultrasharp series. I have seen some in person and they're awesome. Other monitors in the same category do go on sale more often, but to me the fact that the Ultrasharps do not go on sale is indicative of their quality. I don't need any quicker than 60hz and I really don't want to invest in one of those obligatory Korean Qnix reccomended monitors because you could get a bad panel, and the build quality isn't stellar, plus the Dell's are introductory graphic design monitor too.

My two cents.

I have a Dell U2515H - it's a bit older, apparently not the most affordable although I'm not very familiar with monitor prices these days and not necessary amazing either, but I've been happy enough with it.

There's tons of displays that are superior to the outdated overpriced stuff Apple was pushing. Since you're likely on a Mac, I'll exclude monitors with a higher refresh rate than 60Hz.

This one is a good baseline. It's great if you want a direct replacement for the cinema display (although this monitor features better adjustment).

This one is a great lower res 21:9 display.

This one is a great higher res 21:9 display.

Finally, this one (with it's 28 inch brother) are both excellent UHD monitors.

The 7700K is the strongest gaming processor. Here it is combined with a GTX 1070, which is a good gpu for 1080p on more than 60Hz, or for 60Hz on a resolution of 1440p. The case is smaller than usual (micro-ATX case and fitting micro-ATX board), but should fit everything comfortably. To make that a bit easier I added a small version of the 1070, which also has a very nice price currently.

As a display, I suggest https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2515H-25-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00SPWPF1O (a good 1440p IPS display), but there are cheaper options if you prefer. I'd reuse the keyboard since for gaming they don't matter, but get a gaming mouse like https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816067 if the one you have is really basic.

I currently use a 2k Dell monitor on my setup, I'm looking to switch to this 1080p 240hz alienware, I am going to notice an impact on the downgrade of the resolution?

I ask this because when I try using 1080p on my 2k monitor, it looks very blurry, does that happen because the native resolution of the monitor is 2k and I can't force 1080p on it? So if I were to purchase the Alienware, I wouldn't notice any difference in the image sharpness?

If you really want 4k 60hz IPS then I'd go with the one you mentioned.

$500ish? You won't be able to get 120/144Hz at 1440p with an IPS display for cheap.

You can get this ASUS monitor for around $400. 27", IPS, 60Hz, 2560x1440. You can get Dell's 25" offering for a similar price. Dell's 27 inch offering is a little over $500, if I remember correctly.

ASUS offers this MG279Q for a little over $600 when all is said and done. This might be your best bet. Acer offers this one, with GSync instead of the previous monitor's FreeSync for $700.

Edit: All of these monitors are IPS. If you want to go TN, I bet the choices will bloom and the prices will lower.

I've fallen in love with the Dell U2515H 1440p IPS 60HZ monitor. Great color reproduction and wide viewing angles.

Haven't done much gaming on it, so I can't talk too much about its gaming performance but I am happy with it regardless.

Do you have any particular brand/model recommendations?

What exactly is the difference between these two monitors besides the significant difference in price and does the price different warrant the increased expense?

Get whatever you want. Both 144hz/G-SYNC and 1440p looks nice, you don't need both, they're both huge steps up from what you currently have.

I would personally pick 1440p 60hz for casual gaming, but it's just a preference.

I just spent a shitload of money (like $2.5k) on a motion graphics machine. It has an i7 6800k, gtx 1070, 64gb RAM, 4 drives, etc. The one place I'm lacking is in the monitor department. Right now I have an HP 25es as my main, and a 19 inch whatever brand monitor as my secondary. I'm hoping to move the 19 inch over to my security system and use the HP 25es as my secondary.

For my primary, I wanted something that would be good for my work. I do some color grading and a lot of motion graphics/video editing. So now comes my dilemma. I spent all this money and went over budget by about 500 bucks already. Now I need to throw a monitor into the mix and I'm fairly strapped for cash. Do I splurge the extra 100 on the Ultrasharp, or do I get this Acer? Will I possibly get a better Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal on the Ultrasharp?

Someone please help me decide!
