They cost almost £500 so it might have been worth it. Plus the camera attached to it

Depending on who you buy it from, this version can start as low as $560 NEW. However, I took a gamble and went for a used one for $450. Best. Gamble. Ever. The seller here, which is K&M Camera, completely undersold the condition of the Phantom. They claimed it was like new and it was just the box that looked beat up. I swear to you, mine looks like it's brand spanking new. Even the box. All the wrapping and things were on it, and not a single scratch on anything. The best part is that they have it fulfilled by Amazon, so if it's not working or it's not as they described, you can return it for a full refund and not even pay the return shipping.

If you were going to buy a Phantom, buy this one, and do it before they up the price.

If you don't have any sort of camera to attach to it, maybe go with the slightly cheaper Phantom FC40. It has a built in camera, but the accessories are lower quality.

Anyway, I hope that answers your question.

Edit: Oh, and one more thing. I would buy a small nano quad if you don't have any experience flying these. I had a Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 that I used for a long while until I fucked up and it flew straight into the wind and never came back. It gets tricky, but thankfully Phantoms have GPS positioning and things so it's much more difficult to lose them due to user error.

You were able to get a DJI Phantom 2 for $450?

That's the Phantom 2 Vision, which comes with an integrated stabilised camera (although it's not a patch on the GoPro in terms of picture quality). If you want an all-in-one solution you're better off going for the Phantom 2 Vision+ (which has a better camera on than the older Vision).

However, if you want to add a GoPro you just need the bog standard Phantom 2 (you can add a fixed bracket undernearth for the camera or you can buy the H3-3D gimbal separately and attach it), or alternatively the Phantom 2 with the H3-3D stabilised gimbal underneath for nice smooth shots (the stabilisation really is incredible).
