You may be routed using a 2.4GHz band, what you want is 5GHz. Normally people are on 2.4GHz and its essentially like theres lots of traffic coming to your house, whereas if you're on 5GHz, there's less people on it and less traffic.

Get a dual band wi-fi extender and you can opt into the 5GHz channel, it transmits information way faster - which is why it's highly recommended for online gaming. I got a BT dual band wifi extender (think thats the right product) half a year ago and have had a solid 40 ping in most of my games PLUS no more random fucking disconnects!

Just as a note, you don't need to change internet provider, I'm with sky broadband at the minute but the BT product I got has a dongle, which you put into your computer and its own modem thingy which you just set next to your existing router.
