You are going to struggle with gaming with either of these models and tv probably won’t be much better. The problem is resolution. Both projectors are 800x600 native resolution, basically standard-def tv. Imagine a computer monitor from 1998 blown up to 100” screen. Text will be unreadable and video will be blurry like tv in the 90’s.
Honestly, if you’re set on a $300 price ceiling, go off brand and look for “native resolution” of 720p, very important to look for native resolution. A listing that just says “supports 1080p” or “HD” is likely just taking about the inputs it’ll accept, not the actual projection resolution.

If that’s totally out of price range, there’s always the used market. Just look for a lightly used one so the bulb isn’t worn. They are expensive to replace.
I second the 1060 recommendation. The renewed is great value but the new version is also within /u/Yn0tThink's budget. As the other poster mntioned, the 20 foot throw is going to be a problem. The projector does much better at a closer range.

That's what I started with a few years ago. It's very bright, and the picture was better than I expected.

The 1080p Epson 1060 is new and just came out, here it is on Amazon. Be sure to look at the Epson 1060 Distance Calculator. I'm not sure how far the projector will be from your screen.
If you want something to compare it to then, I think it would compare well to the Epson 2040. The 1060 is quite a bit brighter than that with a bit less contrast.
Are you talking about this and this ? If so, both have their own advantages.. In what kind of lighting condition will you be using it ? The 1060 is quite brighter and would be more ideal for a room with more light. The 2150 though has wireless capability that the 1060 doesnt have.
