ESPN College Football Encyclopedia
Holy shit, this book is a college football lover's dream. It's got everything you can possibly want. Who was #18 in Week 4 of 1948? Who was fourth place in the Heisman voting in 1962? What was the score of Harvard Yale in 1902? Who won the 1979 Peach Bowl? How many yards did Timmy Chang throw for in his career? Who led the Big 10 in passing in 1992?
Downside: released in 2005, only current through 2004 season.
It still ranks as my favorite sports book of all time.
If you're crazy about history from a statistical standpoint, you'll enjoy the ESPN College Football Encyclopedia. It's 10 years old now, but it gives a team-by-team breakdown and season recaps for every season through 2004.
ESPN's College Football Encyclopedia is a good resource for the college game if you are looking for a straight history perspective. I can't help you on pro football in the literature department unfortunately.
