I recognize it's not a 1-to-1 situation, but I bought a set of these and I'm really impressed. I numbered the individual pockets with a paint pen and I'm able to switch between different lengths very easily!
Perhaps you could use a similar system and use paint to mark different heights on your straps? You'd at least be able to have them level without having to think, step back, and re-adjust.
