Everyone seems to have this same opinion, but I have a Fang Gamepad which is just the left side of this keyboard and I love it. I understand it's not mechanical, but I have big hands and the layout of the WASD helps me a lot. Gaming on a normal keyboard for extended periods leads to my hand cramping up. I'm not sure what I'll do when it finally dies, since every other game pad is essentially just a chopped up keyboard.

I've had this thing for about 10 years maybe longer; it's the SteelSeries Merc Stealth. Reason I linked to Amazon is b/c they don't make them anymore & when it finally dies I will cry like a fucking baby.

To me it's hands down the best for FPS gaming. They also used to sell the Fang which is a decent substitute. Almost all the necessary keys you use are at your fingertips. I've been using this configuration so long I'm going to have to retrain myself if I can't get my hands on another one. Sorry for the tangent but I love this thing & to add this is not even a mechanical keyboard.

Can someone explain to me what a "stick" is? The template included just looks like a gamepad, something along the lines of this but less geared for fps.

I picked it up locally at a GameStop like 5 years ago and as far as I know, they dont make it anymore. Newegg and Amazon still list it, just as discontinued.

These people could remap some keys at a lower level. A couple of my friends who are lefties use one of these guys - fully remappable and ambidextrous, shame it's discontinued. That's one of the great things about the PC platform: if someone else fucks up, there's probably a few other options to work around it.

Here's a Link for your viewing pleasure. I got mine for a birthday gift from a friend 3 years ago and have never looked back.

> I'm a lefty as well. I'd like to use main control with my left hand if possible. Are sticks designed to be for right hand use at all or are they amibidextrous tools?

Hello fellow lefty. As I am sure you already know the gaming industry always has, and always will, hate us. The best we can typically hope for are ambidextrous tools, though I hear one of the Thrustmasters is reversible.

The stick I use is very basic but suits all of my needs, and is also plug-n-play which is a bonus for me because I just lost usage of my favorite usb gamepad after over 10 years of faithful service due to abandoned driver support.

Unfortunately when it comes to throttles I have yet to find any that are ambi, so I use another usb peripheral for my right hand that is also plug-n-play. Like some one else suggested you could use two sticks, but I find that limiting actually.

I got lucky enough to win a steelseries shift in a contest but don't have any of the keysets for MMO/FPS/etc just the default keyboard. but remapping is always a PitA & trying to learn to use the mouse as a righty this late in my life is an all but fruitless endeavor lol...there's some gimmicky looking pieces out there for ambidexterous gaming for example Warrior Gaming Keypad or the Ideazon Fang Gamepad. but spending upwards of $40 (if it can be found @ all) for a glorified numberpad is not ideal to say the least.

Interesting idea, might be useful to the OP. I'v been using an Ideazon Fang for years now, and have been happy with it.

Keyboard, actually, although it's old and hard to find for a reasonable price anymore.

I don't think your setup is that sub-par. It looks to be adequate for most things, especially those games you've listed.

I can vouch for Mark of the Ninja being a great game. And FTL, although frustrating at times, is also loads of fun.

I don't know how I feel about the Razer gamepad. There doesn't seem to be enough buttons for my uses. I have an Ideazon Fang which I love, but unfortunately they're not made anymore.

I don't understand why they don't create a peripheral for those types of games on a console. It's capable of it and other genres have sold specific peripherals (plastic instruments and steering wheels).

I use the Fang Gamepad when playing MMOs on my laptop instead of plugging in a full keyboard or using the rather crappy laptop keyboard. Something like this could be used on consoles as well.

For RTS I think the PS3 Move would be a good match. RUSE takes advantage of this but I have not played it. Can't see that working with kinect though.

I made the switch in 2005. I would recommend you try a game pad, as it really helped me to minimize fatigue and discomfort. here is the one i use currently: http://www.amazon.com/Ideazon-ZGP-1000-Fang-Gamepad-by/dp/B000FRW8KS
