I'll dig for that book.

FOUND it! Yvonne Kason's Farther Shores

I added it to the book list in the wiki.

Why secrets? That's easy.

Because an ill-used Kundalini can be hazardous, and Kundalini accelerates karma. Some things are not shared until a student has earned the trust and respect of the teacher. Before secrets are shared, an agreement is made between the two, and that agreement has a seriousness few readers would imagine.

Not all who are curious about Kundalini will ever have the right respect nor attitudes for it (not this lifetime, and not for many more... which is perfectly fine), and so a sorting hat function must be made on the information which is public, and the information that is kept hidden, on who gets access to the hidden, and who doesn't and mustn't. That's why it is considered an esoteric practice, and you'll never find all of it on the internet, nor in books.

Would you hire and trust a fellow with a long criminal record to be a valet with people's cars and the possessions inside at a fancy hotel?

Would you knowingly hire a pilot with serious mental imbalances to fly your 100 million dollar aircraft with passengers across oceans? That's why pilots see a doctor every six months, (or maybe it's annually, now). Fail the examination and you stop flying.

In a similar fashion, you'd only wish to grant access to Kundalini's sacred spaces to those who would fully accept responsibility, respect some moral structure that would guide them to not misuse the energy. As teacher, the karmic responsibility lies on your shoulders. In this case, it lies on my shoulders.

Separately, there are people doing dispicable things to others involving energy, not Kundalini specifically, but it's been involved loosely. To reveal details would be to place myself in harm's way. I'm not a whole fool, just a half-a-one. Smiles. Some people would try to weaponise a flower if they could, so deep is their fear of life and of dying. Love and live-and-let-live (where possible) are easier ways to live.

These people don't wish their secrets to be revealed, simple. I share this wee vague bit to remind people that not everyone has altruistic and positive goals. Some are slithering creeps willing to use humans as test animals. Slithering creeps are part of the fabric of life too.

There's a culture within the internet-raised and savvy young of total openness and trust, and there's beauty in that. There's also a certain entitlement and unwillingess to earn or work for things, expecting them on silver platters, or for free just like on the net. Rarely does one of these understand the hidden costs of the free (no cost email, no cost social, etc) internet. Some, not all. Those who are expecting and want full openness for everything are being a wee bit childish , naive and immature. Oddly, these are the first to accuse others of being sheeple.

Those willing to put the time and effort in, those who can see the beauty and the ugliness in humanity, in individuals and groups, those are the ones who can begin approaching Kundalini with the needed balance. Some naiveness? Sure. Some foolishness? Sure. (maybe I'm a good example of that? D'oh!) Playfulness? Absolutely!! But also all the seriousness, awareness, calmness and presence one can muster when needed.

Generally, openness, honesty, authenticity are fine and workable concepts for which I have immense respect. Some information can and should be free, or available. They have their exceptions, some aspects of Kundalini being one of them.

A good movie which explores a fictitious spiritual form involving secrecy around a scroll that has some relevance to this conversation is Bulletproof Monk. It's not an exact match by any means, Kundalini and scrolls being different, but the lesson of protecting a truth is there all the same. Sometimes people imagine things, and their imaginings are incorrect. Some people think Kundalini will fix their problems (it won't), make them powerful or take control over other people (There's a YT 3rd eye meditation that encourages this - how childish! No wisdom on consequences for such a thing), enhance their sexuality (it can) or any such figment they;ve read or imagined.

>If Kundalini truly is a good thing, why not let people be aware of it?

Kundalini is a good thing for those people it may be good for. It isn't "good" for everyone this lifetime, not universally good. You see? My presence here answering questions is to attempt to help provide good quality information without revealing what needs be withheld.

In the news I saw a story about a fellow who killed a 2 yera old in front of the father and a friend. He wanted the father to see his kid die. Gang violence is involved. Do you really think Kundalini might be useful here?

Kundalini is not universally useful to all people.

> but a good teacher could prevent damages due to an incorrect meditation practice.

Yes, of course, but that implies a one-on-one or closed group environment, not the wide open public internet. I / we have no control over who has access to /r/kundalini. Yes, we could make a closed sub to deal with more advanced stuff, but then who might access? That's why oral traditions exist in the first place (not because they lacked paper and ink).

Does that answer your question to your satisfaction?
