I bought this for $17 and it gets the job done. Thin enough to sit in top of rubber pad and not have my phone slide off.

I have this splitter. One side I have my flash drive plugged in to play music, the other side is a Qi charger with this sticky thing on top. I can play music and charge the phone at the same time, but I haven't tested how much slower the phone charges.

Eh, not exactly... i think is built so if you do not have the base you can connect it to an accessory power. However if you do have the base it just charges both ports.... at least that is my experience, however (big disclaimer) mine is not the one I linked (that was just an example) I bought one on eBay form China. A lot cheaper (~40 bucks). This mostly because when I got I was not sure how it worked did so I wanted to keep the loss to a minimal. It is totally possible that the China one I got has 0 safetyguard on power draw :) :)

This. It is so much more convenient than fumbling with a connector, as you said. It also makes it easier to keep your battery in the 50-80% range that they like, provided you spend a lot of time at your desk or have a bunch of them throughout the house.
I also got a thin wireless pad that fits in my car's center console. I usually throw it in there so I can easily control my music (car doesn't have Bluetooth "natively", I have a dongle) and now it gets charged too!
