This is what I use: http://i.imgur.com/6YTqGjS.jpg

Wiimote is synced as well for Dolphin games in Steam.

Over the years I've tried all sorts of HTPC keyboards and mini-keyboards, and keyboard/controller combos. None of them have been perfect, but I keep looking and appreciate your desire to make a better one!

My favorite overall is the Logitech K830. If I had to recommend ONE htpc keyboard to someone, it would be this one. Backlit keys and full function keyboard+trackpad can't be beat.

Here's what I don't like about the Logitech K830

  • I wish it had actual function keys. My HTPC is a linux box and I use this keyboard for everything, and I would sure appreciate dedicated function keys (they could be tiny ones like on macbook keyboard...)
  • I wish it had a higher resolution mouse -- it's not the best PC gaming keyboard...
  • From a few years of using the keyboard in my lap, mine has started to bend slightly downward in the center.
  • Rubber feet have long since come off. Wider feet with stickier glue might be good.
  • I wish it had full size arrow keys instead of tiny arrow keys
  • I wish it had a larger battery so that it could go longer between charges.

Now... on to other devices I've used to control media centers...

My current favorite TV remote is the ROKU remote. I don't need 50 buttons, and I feel like the Apple TV remotes don't have enough buttons. The roku remotes are just about right, but don't support CEC, I don't need the extra video service buttons that I can't reprogram, and if a roku-clone remote also supported an 'air mouse', I would certainly buy a couple.

I've also tried just about every game controller as an HTPC controller, and my favorite one is the WII controller because it has enough buttons to do everything I really need while holding it in my hand, and I don't need to look at it. If someone made a wii-clone HTPC controller that held a charge more than a few days, with an air mouse mode, I'd buy a bunch of those!

    Lastly... tiny keyboards..
The Rii Mini K12 is too flat for my likes, and it's only slightly smaller than a fullsize keyboard.

I like this mini wireless keyboard because of backlighting: https://www.amazon.com/FAVI-Wireless-Backlit-Keyboard-Built/dp/B0090BTY8Y/ref=sr_1_cc_3?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1520276357&sr=1-3-catcorr&keywords=rii+mini+wireless+backlit

However, it would be much better IF the following changes were made:

  • larger trackpad
  • auto backlight by default
  • arrow keys set apart so that I can find them by feel instead of looking at keyboard
  • move escape key
  • get rid of android keys
  • maybe make it fractionally bigger...

I've used openelec and XBIAN. So far XBIAN has been the best for me. I bought this remote some time ago when it was a bit cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0090BTY8Y/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I think you might be able to find something better.

I've been quite happy with the FAVI Entertainment Stick for my HTPC. It's a remote control sized keyboard/mouse that's backlit and uses Bluetooth so you don't have to worry about line of sight IR issues. It has a Lithium-ion battery that can be charged by plugging it in to a USB port.

I recently purchased this keyboard from amazon and have been very happy with it. I'm using it on my media center Pi which is running OpenELEC. The touch pad is better than I expected. The keyboard is pretty easy to type on once you get used to it. It is back lit, and rechargeable with a pretty decent range. I've been using mine from about 15-20 ft away. The keyboard keys are a bit loud but it doesn't really bother me.

It works the way it should be. Keys' a bit stiff for me and if you have big thumbs, this one is not for you. Battery lasts forever even with the back-lighting enabled.

I've tried several keyboard solutions in conjunction with the Rift and settled on a 6" long backlit wireless keyboard. Its PERFECT for typing in navigation points, etc. through the gaps in the Rift since you can see the whole keyboard at once.

I'm sure there are others but this is the keyboard I'm using (it uses the typical USB dongle).

I've had it for almost three years now? I barely every charge it. The touch pad is kinda annoying, but it's great for 20 bucks. I recommend this over a few of the others because the mouse click buttons are far from the touchpad making clicking easier than this one. which has the buttons under the keypad.

You can find them for cheap on websites other than Amazon.

Not technically an air mouse but the touchpad works just fine. I have a Favi RF version. Fun tip: If you have a Samsung smart TV, you can plug in the receiver to the TV's USB port and use it as a mouse/keyboard.

My current setup for the living room is a wireless Xbox 360 controller, and a small trackpad/keyboard like this one.

Unfortunately, the only games I can play are ones that effectively use a controller like single player FPS, racing, platformer, and action/adventure titles. Competitive FPS, RTS, and MOBAs are played at my desk.
