Well, from the 1998-1999 season til now, this has to be one of the top correct answers.

Prior to that season, the Zags had been to the tournament once ever, in 1995. Gonzaga University itself was on life support in every way. The coaching staff had to sleep in their own junky cars when recruiting if they didn't have any friends in the area...they certainly weren't going overseas to recruit! The assistant coaches all shared a small house. They played in very small gymnasium, and I could just walk up and get a ticket to a game that was at best, half full.

Since 1998, they have been to 19 straight tournaments, even advancing to the NCAA title game this past year whilst coming out of a "truck stop league". That first year, when they beat Florida to get to the E8 and gave eventual UConn their best test in the dance altogether, the applications for enrollment jumped up 10 fold. Donors opened up their checkbooks. They built a gorgeous new arena, thanks to the McCarthy brothers, which at 6,000 seats has been sold out every single game. Hell, almost every announcer even pronounces the school name correctly now (ahem, Round Mound...you're turrible). Additionally, the majority of the athletic programs contend for titles now. We are spoiled, we know it, it is blissful, and I hope it never ends!
