I'm not op but I've considered this change for an RV I'll be purchasing. This would do the trick right? I bought one for an old project and I plan to use it. He can keep his inverter and converter if I understand this correctly.

Something like this. You can also wire in a battery charger into the shore power side of it and have it charge your batteries while you're plugged in! By the way, beautiful van, you really polished that thing up nicely. Did you paint it with a roller? Been considering painting mine myself and looking for options.

You're looking for an automatic transfer switch which can switch power between two sources, however they are usually whole house affairs....

You'll want an automatic transfer switch like this https://www.amazon.com/Go-Power-TS-30-Automatic-Transfer/dp/B00153EYTO (mains ac would be where the generator is.) It performs the same kind of function an off the shelf ups does, other than you get to wire in you're own inverter, batteries, and charger. I wouldn't wire up such a thing without an electrician though.

Thank you, the place where the transfer switch will be used in Haiti. How do I tell if it works for AC, electric and a generator? I found this on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Go-Power-TS-30-Automatic-Transfer/dp/B00153EYTO/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_i but I'm not sure if it'll work for all three components?
