You would enjoy this book.

My dad used to tell me that when the ice cream van was playing music, it meant they were out of ice cream. He also told me that raisins were spiders with their legs cut off and I'm still a bit wary of them to this day.

Have you found the book Great Lies to tell Small Kids yet? It's from the same chap who did the Bunny Suicides books.

My favourite is the one that says:
>That's not the same sun that rises each morning. Every night, when the sun sets, it goes down behind that hill over there and lands. Then we wait until it's cool enough and cut it up, and that's where margarine comes from.

That or the one simply says:
>Milk feels pain.

My dad has a book called Great Lies to Tell Small Kids. I'd say it's fairly common, and very fun.
