Ok, time to get gross. Like /u/johnnykaiserblade said, a cleaning helps, but in more ways than just being clean. After a nice warm cleansing, I get super loose down there. Ok, here's the gross part. I have, at times used the shower head to clean out, but usually, I'll dislodge some hidden surprises when I do. Then I have to scoop it up and throw it in the toilet. I bought this enema bag and this suction tubing as a better tube.
The Parker 61 or most of the open backed cartridges for cleaning other pens fit in the end of the replacement tubing snugly enough to seal. So either press the Parker directly into the tubing or for other pens the cleaning cart (and then insert the cleaning cart as you normally would) and then suspend the bag from the top of your kitchen cabinet nearest the sink and gravity will do the rest. Place the other end into a mug in your sink and walk away while two quarts of whatever you're using to clean it with get flushed right through. One bag will usually do it, my wife let a pen dry out for six months and that took three fills.
That little setup let's me walk away and have my coffee or do something else while the pen cleans itself.
