You could also look at Rice Rusks if your little man has some teeth... my daughter loved these from about months 8-12.

They are nice because they dissolve really quickly - start with really small bits if you are nervous about them.
Have you tried any of the gerber puffs? Again - may or may not be ready QUITE yet - each kid is different... but those are great to help with those fine motor skills they will need to deal with more slippery solid foods.
