The Hori Fighting Commander has been perfect for me. I dislike the DS4 for fighting games, I really hate trigger buttons for fighters (R2 & L2 on DS4 and Xbox Controller)
I've read some people dislike Hori FC because of blisters on thier thumb BUT I personally get blisters on my thumb no matter which DPAD I use (DS4, XBOX, HORI, MADCATZ, ECT) I get blisters on my thumb when using a fight stick too.
My friend once told me I grip the padstick too tight and put too much pressure maybe thats why I get blisters but I cannot attribute it to one specific pad or stick so that is my problem not the manufacturers.
I hated the DPAD on Xbox 360 controller too for SSFIV so I got a MADCATZ, I liked this pad but it was only for 360. It was pretty durable I had it for years before donating it along with my 360.
In my experience the HORI FC is also very durable I have dropped it many times and it still works perfected and none of the pieces have broken. I have other controllers that I do not use for Fighting Games like this controller that the right trigger broke very early on.
The downside is HORI FC does not have the Touchpad nor does it have R3/L3 which most games seem to bind RECORD/PLAY/RESET/NEXT TRIAL in Training/Trial Modes to one of these buttons. This is likely the biggest issue with this controller, labbing and having to reset constantly via menus instead a quick button press does get annoying.

I agree with the d-pad or we’re just in denial of getting older. I believe hyperkin makes a retro controller and a mega man themed one was supposed to be out soon. I’ve been thinking about grabbing one for all the retro stuff that’s out.

According to these Amazon reviews, it does not work on a Raspberry Pi 3 running RetroPi.
