My hamstrings used to be the same. Laying on my back and having someone push my leg up while holding my knee in place to make sure it didn't bend, I would never get past 45 degrees. Even 45 degrees was painful.

I bought one of these, and it was a game changer. There's probably cheaper ones you can find, like a yoga strap or something, but this is what I used. Literally within a week i was at 80 degrees. Now I'm at about 100 degrees, and this has become the new point that I can't get past. Still though, I'm thrilled that I made it that far so easily.

The key is that when stretching with this thing I would also hold the stretch for 2-3 minutes. For the first week I would use it twice a day every day. After that I slowed down to once a day. Don't just go straight up with it either. While in the stretched position, you can rotate your leg to either side for additional stretching, and wiggling your toes also helps.

I know people will disagree with me and cite some study that says X Y Z method is better for stretching hamstrings and my method runs the risk of W, but I tried everything and nothing except this worked. The bottom line though is that stretching your hamstrings sucks and it's uncomfortable for people like us, so you need to have discipline to hold it for that full 3 minutes, and to keep doing it the next day.
