estragonsboot has the right idea, search through the subreddit and you'll find tons of advice. As for what records to buy--go with albums that you already enjoy. Then you'll be able to notice any differences in the sound/mastering. But if you really want a suggestion, since you like hiphop you may like Nas - Illmatic*. You can always find this album for really cheap--no more than $8 - $10 online for a new sealed copy.
