What type of case does your Nexus 4 use? It wouldn't by chance use an Ionic Guardian, would it? Because it appears to match the discoloration on your screen, perfectly.

I only have a layman's understanding of the technology, but LCDs are electrically sensitive. When a modulated current is applied, they can change color, ranging from clear (no current) to black. They can also become stuck when pressure is applied. IIRC there's three color sensitive layers of electrically sensitive material: RGB. To produce black, it engage all three layers. Yours displays a reddish hue, which might mean that the green and blue layers are somehow stuck. Fortunately, LCD screens are remarkably rugged -- you can try to unstick them using screen-test app.

Pressure damage isn't software-repairable and I'm hoping this is not the case with your device. It doesn't look like stuck pixels. It may be permanent. But if you want to try, here's an app:

Ballistic

Ionic

Acase Superleggera

KaysCase ArmorBox (this is a generic design sold by multiple manufacturers)

Boxwave

Another generic design made by multiple people

I have the Acase and I think it's awesome. I think Ballistic would give the best protection, then Ionic, then Acase. But I only have experience with the Acase one so I'm just guessing about the others

I have one of these. Pretty much bulletproof. Not compact by any means, though I'd say the extra-thick corners and hard shell make it one of the best cases I've ever seen for drops. It actually makes the buttons clickier too, which I find mind-boggling but is welcome.

Totally. You're not going to get a good looking minimalist bumper that will protect your phone from a drop on a hard surface. If you want drop protection look at something like this, I've had it since they came out and it's great.

Not with this case!

I have this one:

Adds some bulk to the phone, but I got it because of the cost and the fact that it is, in fact, a very sturdy case. No regrets thus far.

Iconic Gaurdian. I have one for my nexus 4, and liked it so much that I bought one for my new S4.
