Simply bought a sheet of steel from hardware store, did some sanding on it a bit, rounded the corners. Then primed it, and painted it with two coats of chalkboard paint. The spice jars are by Kamenstein.

At Ikea they have a chopping board that you can place over your sink. Ikea in general is a great resource for small spaces, like drop-leaf tables.

Keep EVERYTHING off the counter by putting them up on shelves, racks, or magnetized to your wall. Maybe get these magnetic jars for sprinkles. I use this for my spice rack and keep them on the side of my fridge. Utilize cookie racks to keep things out of the way. Baking sheets with a lip usually stacks on top of one another if you criss-cross them as well.

Embrace the dark side.

We bought a bunch [of these 3-packs.] (http://www.amazon.com/Kamenstein-Magnetic-Storage-Spice-Racks/dp/B0002TG2YM/ref=pd_sim_k_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1XPN63FA50Q9VTBQ9XHN) and stuck 'em to the side of the fridge. That image kind of makes them look really cheap, but they look nice.

I use a magnetic metal jar, the top spins and has little holes like a shaker, or just comes right off for when you want to measure or just grab a pinch.
