there's no reason to use usb 3 as the data transfer rate isn't going to be the limiting factor. get this: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital-DataTraveler-DTSE9H-8GBZET/dp/B00DYQYJ3Q

This setup runs AAA 2015 titles around average 40 fps at 1080p medium-high, it's a good build. You can hit 60 fps in all but the worst optimized titles with some settings tuning. Older stuff like CS:GO it'll do 100 fps easy. You can get a Windows 8.1 standard key for $20 on /r/microsoftsoftwareswap and install it with the USB installer on their side bar. If you need a USB drive for OS installs, they're extremely cheap. I use DTSE9.

They say that, but I'd ask a worker at an alternate branch or send a couple test drives anyway. I've received multiple SD cards and flash drives in padded envelopes from as far away as Hong Kong delivered via USPS, and they have received nary a scratch.

There are metal flash drives (I have one of these myself) which are pretty resistant to moderate crushing/bending forces and are pretty cheap.

It's certainly easier if you already have an 8GB USB flash drive lying around. If you don't have one, you can get one for $5. Plus, if you basically never use discs any more, no point in buying one just to install Windows.
