It was made for Windows XP, but I'm pretty sure it still works in modern systems. That said, Konami has made no effort to make this available, so I'd say emulate.

You can get official ports of Castlevania 1, 2 and 3, as well as Contra and Super C in a collection published by konami

CV 1-3 were sold on a CD-Rom(half of this collection) many years back(late 90's) but as far as I know no other titles were brought over until LOS. I don't think Konami cares to change this either so originals, emulation or Virtual Console are your only options.
